A Little Background On Chas Findley

Chas Findley at Mechanical Concept Tattoo in Huntington Beach

Born and raised in Huntington Beach, I have had a terrific life with a great family. When I wasn't doing school work or working on my latest art project, I was down at the beach absorbing the sun and ejoying the waves. While attending schools such as Dwyer Middle School and Huntington Beach High School, during the summers I was enrolled in the Jr. Lifeguard Program.

Art has always been a leading passion in my life. Back when my friends were skateboarding outside, I was trying to replicate the design on the back of my skateboard deck. In kindergarten I broke the wrist of my drawing hand chasing my older brother around the yard, but even with a cast I forced myself to grip the crayon the best I could in order to make the most of coloring time. During my apprenticeship I made the same foolish mistake of breaking the wrist of my drawing hand - this time, doing what most boys my age do, speeding down a nearby hill on my skateboard. You can bet I wasn't going to let a cast hold me back from doing what I love, so over the course of the three month healing process I taught myself how to draw with my left hand!

Becoming a professional tattoo artist is a dream come true! I've apprenticed the past two and a half years here at Mechanical Concept Tattoo under friend and mentor, Brian Ragusin. I was fortunate enough to learn from Billy Sarno and L the Artist as well, both whom I'm gald to call friends. During this time, not only did I learn the incredible craft of tattooing but I also refined my drawing skills. Filling up sketchbook after sketchbook, I began understanding what it took to make a great custom tattoo design, always tring to make my designs appealing and have fluidity with the body. My dream of becoming a tattoo artist spawned in highschool. Although, when I look back to earlier years, I rememeber that I used to spend nights in my friends garage using a ball point pen to draw old punk band logos. We were trying to be like the cool tattooed parents, untill all my buddies had arms fully covered, only to be washed away my the morning shower.

I may be new to the tattoo industry, but I have gained a lot of terrific experience through my apprenticeship. I love learning and I love a challenge, but most of all I love meeting new people! I enjoy tattooing a broad range of styles, from larger illustrative pieces with color that pops to the tiny little fun pieces that only take 10 minutes. If it's a style I haven't focused on as much as others, it's almost more enjoyable to be able to branch out to something new. Whatever your heart desires, hopefully I can be the one to make your tattoo needs come true!
